Frequently asked questions
Answers about our products
What is a vacuum drying cabinet?
A vacuum drying cabinet is a heatable, vacuum-tight container for drying under negative pressure. Under vacuum, the temperature at which moisture or solvents evaporate drops. This allows even temperature-sensitive products to be dried gently and in less time. At ELEKTRO-WÄRME-AACHEN, we call small-volume devices, for example benchtop or built-in units, vacuum drying cabinets. In everyday language, the term vacuum drying oven is also common.
What is a vacuum drying chamber?
A vacuum drying chamber works on the same principle as a vacuum drying cabinet, but is designed for large quantities. At ELEKTRO-WÄRME-AACHEN, we speak of vacuum drying chambers from a volume of 1000 liters. Typical features are heated shelves, a tray rack with several slots or a separate control cabinet for the controller.
What is the difference between a cabinet and a chamber?
Technically, both devices work on the same principle. There is no official or uniform definition of the terms. At ELEKTRO-WÄRME-AACHEN we use our own colloquial rule of thumb: we call benchtop devices vacuum drying cabinets and large-volume devices from 1000 liters vacuum drying chambers. The number in the device name indicates the capacity in liters, so an EWA VRTK 1000 holds 1000 liters. In the device name, V stands for vacuum, E for a rectangular and R for a round design.
What is a vacuum drying cabinet used for?
Vacuum drying cabinets are used mainly in laboratories, in development and for small quantities, for example in pharmaceutical and fine chemicals or in electronics. Typical tasks are drying and dehumidifying under vacuum, degassing and sample storage. One example is the EWA VETK 27 for installation in a console or an isolator. You will find an overview with suitable devices under Applications of vacuum drying.
What is a vacuum drying chamber used for?
Vacuum drying chambers are used in industrial applications and for large quantities, for example in pharmaceutical and specialty chemicals, in carbide and machining, and in electronics. Typical tasks are drying powders and granules, material separation by evaporation and condensation, and degassing. For extracting flammable solvents, we offer the EWA VETK 1500 Ex, an explosion-proof version (Ex).
What materials does EWA use for its products?
The interiors of our devices are made of stainless steel, for example stainless steel 1.4571 (V4A) in the EWA VETK 27, a proven, corrosion-resistant material. For particularly demanding tasks, the EWA VETK 2000 uses Hastelloy® C-22 in addition to the stainless steel interior (also known as Alloy C-22 or material 2.4602), a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy (NiCr21Mo14W) with very high corrosion resistance. The inner surfaces are smooth (Ra < 0.8 µm); this makes cleaning easier. For context: numbers such as 1.4571 or 2.4602 are material numbers that clearly describe the material; the names V4A, Alloy C-22 and Hastelloy® are common trade designations. Which material suits your task depends, among other things, on temperature, solvents, acids and cleaning. We are happy to advise you.
